This species is called Rhamnaceae, or Kumerahou. It grows to a width of approximately 1-2m and a height of 2-3 metres.

This species is becoming less widespread as human activity encroaches more and more on its traditional habitat, so it's very important that we try and bring these back into the city. You will often find them on roadside banks, as they can be planted in difficult locations, such as steep banks, and clay soils.

In Winter and Spring, this species blooms with yellow flowers which attracts insects for birds such as PÄ«wakawaka, and provides great habitats for birds.

Grows best in full-sun to part-shade and prefers well-drained soils and does well in clay soils. Plant when the soil is moist and warm in autumn, so the plants have a good chance to develop their root system before the soil dries out.
